Promises

Don’t ask me how, but I stumbled upon an email I got few years ago from an ex of mine.

It was a love letter.

Full of beautiful and warm words, lustful thoughts, declaration of love amongst other things.

I wonder.

I wonder about those promises we make to our lovers. I wonder about those promises our lovers make to us.

Not only those expressed in words or while love making, but those expressed in day-in-day-out little or big actions. like a thoughtful gift, a quick email, a quick text message, a short phone call just to say I miss you…etc.

I think we make a lot of promises. Loudly or silently. We make them. Consciously or subconsciously. We make them.

Which ones we grow, which ones we break and which ones we mend are a whole other story.

I was told once by a friend that whenever you get intimate with someone, you have already made a promise.

I think she’s right.

Another friend recently went out with a date a couple or more times before they had sex. She didn’t hear back from this person for a whole week. She was angry. She knew it was a casual thing. But she was angry. I think she had every right to be angry.

Honesty (however unwanted or blunt) & respect is a promise we should all keep.
