About Annie

Annie is a Palestinian freelance photojournalist and an Independent filmmaker based in Jordan and Canada. As a visual storyteller, Annie seeks long-form narrative with a focus on women’s issues and social justice. In her work, she raises questions of identity and awareness of the experiences of exile, uprooting, and displacement among marginalized groups. Her work is published in Canadian and International media including The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, The Walrus, Bloomberg News and NBC News. She also worked as Photo Editor for The Globe and Mail and Video Producer, Filmmaker and Photographer for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Danish Refugee Council (DRC). Her first short documentary Hollie’s Dress, had its’ World Premiere at Hot Docs Canadian  International Documentary Film Festival in 2020 in collaboration with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Hollie’s Dress played in over 30 international festivals and has won numerous awards including the Golden Sheaf Award and Canada Life Best Short Documentary. Annie is represented by Middle East Images and is a member of Boreal Collective, Women Photograph, and a board member at True North Photo Journal (TPNJ).
